The G. Portelli Group is a family-led group of companies founded by George Portelli, built on decades of entrepreneurship, hard work, and strategic investment.

George Portelli’s entrepreneurial journey began at a young age through a family-run grocery shop on Mannarino Road, where he worked closely alongside his parents, Georgia Portelli and Carmelo Portelli. These formative years instilled strong values of discipline, responsibility, and hands-on involvement—principles that continue to define the Group today.

Having been raised in a family of builders, George naturally gravitated towards the construction and property sectors. However, rather than following a traditional path, he approached the industry with an entrepreneurial mindset, seeking opportunities to create value through development, ownership, and long-term vision.

This led to his first real estate venture, “George’s Flats” on Psaila Street, Birkirkara, marking the beginning of his involvement in property development. In 1990, George Portelli formally established his first company, Ciqenc Limited, laying the foundations for what would later evolve into the G. Portelli Group.

Following Ciqenc Limited, George Portelli briefly managed GMF Precast Limited, further strengthening his experience within the construction and building materials sector. He later founded PSS Holdings Ltd, a company focused not only on the sale of real estate, but also on the leasing and long-term holding of property assets, reinforcing the Group’s investment-driven approach.

As part of its diversification strategy, the Group expanded into other industries, including telecommunications and the printing sector, with the establishment of a small press in Mrieħel. These ventures reflected a willingness to diversify while maintaining disciplined and sustainable growth.

Today, the G. Portelli Group remains primarily focused on real estate, which continues to form the backbone of its operations. At the same time, recent strategic efforts have been directed towards expanding into the energy, tourism, and education sectors, aligning the Group with future-oriented and sustainable industries.

The Group is run as a family business, with George Portelli working closely alongside his wife Anita, his son Sean, and his daughter Sharon, together with their respective families. This strong family involvement ensures continuity, accountability, and a deeply personal commitment to every venture undertaken.
